HR 218

HR 218 / NY SAFE Act Firearms Qualification

All instruction is conducted by active New York State DCJS–certified firearms instructors.

Participants must qualify with each type of concealed carry firearm they intend to carry, including:

  • Revolver
  • Semi-Automatic Pistol

In accordance with the NY SAFE Act, retired law enforcement officers must qualify using:

  • The high-capacity magazine, and
  • The firearm platform issued or carried at retirement

Upon successful completion, participants will receive an HR 218 Photo Qualification Card, which also serves as proof of New York State compliance.

Qualification Standards

  • 50-round live-fire course
  • Minimum passing score: 70%
  • Qualification typically takes 30 minutes or less
  • Please arrive on time
  • Allow additional time if qualifying with more than one weapon

What to Bring

  1. Eye protection
  2. Ear protection
  3. Holster or duty leather
  4. NYS Pistol License
  5. Departmental ID (expired ID is acceptable)

Important Safety Notice

  • All firearms must remain holstered at all times unless on the firing line
  • Eye and ear protection are available for purchase in our retail store if needed

🔔 Policy Change Notice

HR 218 qualifications are no longer weapon-specific.

You may now legally carry either a revolver or a semi-automatic pistol under HR 218, regardless of which weapon type you qualified with.
